Job description: Program VeterinarianThis is a 6 month term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly. You will oversee laboratory services and implement surveillance and disease response plans for wildlife and domestic animals in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.   • Degree in Veterinary Medicine with several years of practice experience
  • Licence to practice veterinary medicine in a Canadian jurisdiction
  • Experience leading animal health programs including surveillance, disease investigation and emergency response
  • Experience communicating technical and scientific information to a lay audience including instruction on animal health and management techniques
  • Experience in veterinary diagnostic methods including necropsy, sample collection and interpretation of findings
  • Experience in applied research and with data management tools is an asset
  • Experience with wildlife diseases and wildlife immobilization is an asset

Desired Knowledge, Skills and SuitabilityTo support key objectives and strategic/operational needs of this position, candidates will be assessed on the following:

  • Strong knowledge of animal health surveillance research methods, ability to assess health risks and understanding of animal disease at the livestock/wildlife interface
  • Knowledge of zoonotic disease risks, specifically related to food safety
  • Solid collaboration skills to work with partners of diverse backgrounds to maintain engagement and advance animal health projects
  • Ability to lead and coordinate programs/various working groups
  • Strong critical thinking skills and demonstrated sound judgement
  • Strong communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Good interpersonal skills
