You’ll be instrumental in ensuring efficient material handling processes and contribute directly to the smooth execution of our daily activities. This position offers the chance to sharpen your problem-solving skills and contribute directly to the efficiency of our supply chain.Beyond technical expertise, this role values exceptional customer service skills. You’ll be the go-to person for addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and providing timely information about orders and material status, ensuring smooth communication and fostering positive relationships.What will you do?

  • Reviews catalogues and electronic system to select the correct general supplies

based on needs * Determines source of general supply for any special order requirements through requisitions, reservations as internal order, and sourcing function.

  • Prepares quotes for business partners for any general supply requirements
  • Receives general supplies for inventory and special orders and validates for quality and quantity
  • Ensures every product that requires a Safety Data Sheet is updated and available
  • Enters receiving data into the corporate inventory management system;
  • Picks orders and prepares for shipping
  • Conducts cycle counts and wall to wall inventory counts when required
  • Determines whether general supplies are required for the present or the future, and works with Supply Chain teams to determine disposition method
  • Ensures general supply catalogues and electronic system are maintained up to date
  • Coordinate pick up and delivery of orders for warehouses within the supply chain

and dispatch to couriers as requiredQualifications

  • Completion of the 12th school grade
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in practical warehouse operations
  • Occupational Health and Safety; WHMIS; SDS; TDG training

Assets:

  • Fork lift truck license is an asset
  • Registered as an apprentice in the Journeyman Materials Technician program is an asset

Skills required for success:

  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used by warehousing operations support fleet maintenance, roadway maintenance, fabrication technologies
  • Knowledge of inventory management, automated office and inventory control systems
  • Knowledge of purchasing, and requisitioning procedures
  • Knowledge and experience related to storage and handling of hazardous goods
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work highly independent; ability to take initiative and be resourceful
  • Ability to identify where non-standard processes should apply; ability to make effective recommendations and seek approval for action, as required
  • Ability to consider impact to other organizations and business units
  • Physical ability to perform work functions of this position
  • Ability to operate a forklift

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:

  • Physical ability to lift a weight of up to 100lbs
  • Physical ability to reach top shelves with the aid of a stepladder
  • May work in dry, humid, dusty areas.
  • May be exposed to precipitation and bright/ dark work environments.
  • May handle chemicals for fleet maintenance related orders.
  • PPE Required – Steel toed footwear. Possible use – Safety eyewear.
  • May work alone and/or on different shifts.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
