Job description: DescriptionThe Sales Associate/Custodian will assist with the operations of the thrift store and maintain the facility, property and grounds in compliance with applicable standards.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Custodian

• When necessary, assist with maintaining the Thrift Store cleanliness
• Do minor repairs as required
• Ensure that the fire extinguishers and smoke detectors are maintained and certified by the company
• Ensure materials such as electronics, cardboard and paper are recycled
• Maintain the cleanliness around the exterior of the building including the dumpsters
• Perform other duties, as mutually agreed upon, with the Community and Family Services Director

Sales Associate

• Transfer donated goods from the store front and outside receiving bin, to the sorting room
• Transfer thrift store stock to/from the basement as needed (i.e. seasonal changeover)
• Operate cash register when required
• Stock shelves and replenish clothes racks
• At all times, maintain the tidiness of the thrift store
• Perform other duties, as mutually agreed upon, with the Community & Family Services Director and/or thrift store supervisor

Seasonal Duties

• Clear snow and ice from all doorways, walkways, ramps, steps, and fire exits, sand and salt as necessary
• Ensure that an ample inventory of sand/salt is available during the winter season
• Connect air conditioners

MONTHLY WORK SCHEDULE:

• November to April – 8:00 am – 3:30 pm daily
• May to October – 8:30 am – 4:00 pm daily

TERM: Regular; full-time; benefits available after three months of employmentHOURS: 35 hours weeklyQUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Be able to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
• Have completed High School
• Be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
• Have knowledge of caretaking work and be able to do minor building repairs
• Possess good interpersonal skills
• Be able to maintain a high standard of confidentiality
• Have physical effort/dexterity for bending/twisting/lifting, shovelling snow, etc.
• Obtain a Criminal Police Check and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form
• Possess a valid Newfoundland Driver’s License and provide current Driver’s abstract
