Job description: Position Category: Variable Hours (Student Assistants may only be employed up to a maximum of 500 working hours during the period August 30 to April 30)Probation/Trial Period: 910 working hours or six (6) months, whichever occurs firstHours: 0-35 hours per weekFunding: BudgetStart Date: May 2025Location: Winnipeg, MBJob Type: Variable HoursStatus: ExistingDate Posted: 03/21/2025Closing Date: 04/15/2025Salary Range: $15.80 per hour + 6% vacation pay*This posting will be used to hire up to 7 positions*Student Central serves as the first, student-centric point of contact for many prospective students, their families, and members of the general public, as well as being a continual point of contact for current students.The Student Registration Assistant is a students-only position working in a fast-paced, student-centered team environment. They support the provision of personal service to students with the aim of fostering a positive personal and academic student experience. The position requires a strong commitment to exceptional customer service. This is a variable hours (0-35 hours per week) position with students primarily scheduled to work during peak registration periods (summer, beginning of Fall and Winter Terms, Spring Term registration, etc.).Responsibilities:
- Assists students by answering basic, routine questions regarding how to login to WebAdvisor, search for courses, select and register for classes, and manage waitlists.
- Answers telephone, email, Zoom, and in-person inquiries at Student Central and at the Student Services Centre’s reception desk of a basic, informational nature.
- When required, registers students into classes with special permission forms.
- Enters or updates student petitions and waivers into the Colleague registration system.
- Updates students’ contact information.
- When required, issues registration/financial statements.
- Makes student ID cards.
- Provides students with basic information on rules and regulations governing registration.
- Assists waitlisted students by calling them and reminding them of their ability to register in WebAdvisor when granted permission.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Some customer service experience, office skills, and telephone skills preferred.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume customer service environment an asset.
- Able to communicate effectively with clients who may be staff, students, and/or the public.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer/keyboard skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office/Windows environment.
- Familiarity with WebAdvisor would be an asset.
- Able to follow oral and written instructions and become familiar with basic University rules, regulations, and procedures concerning registration during training session.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must currently be a full-time student at The University of Winnipeg or at a high school.
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student at The University of Winnipeg in fall/winter 2025/2026.
- Must be available to attend 4 days of mandatory training from May 21, 23, 26 and 27, 2025 from 8:30-4:30 AM.
- Must be available to work in person at The University of Winnipeg.
- Must be available between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM from mid May until September 1, 2025.
- Must be available to work between classes in September and January.
