The social worker will report to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Mental Health & Addiction Services, however will have shared responsibilities with both the NSHA & the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP). The social worker will provide school mental health services directly in the school environment within the designated Schools Plus schools (NDA, Cheticamp, and Etoile de L’Acadie, Sydney). The school mental health clinician is a team player and works flexibly to best meet the needs of clients and the service. The school mental health clinician is able to create and provide evidence-based educational presentations to clients, families, other agencies, and fellow staff members on topics relating to mental health and concurrent disorders. Grand rounds presentations are required as part of this job. Flexibility in hours of work may be required depending on patient care.Schools Plus is a collaborative model that is comprehensive and student focused. Partners work together to educate and provide service to the child and their family, with the school as the center of the service. The service will focus on early identification and intervention of mental health disorders for children and adolescent within the school population. The school mental health clinician will act as a liaison between the client, school, and mental health services.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Maîtrise en travail social avec spécialisation en santé mentale clinique ou en traitement des dépendances pour les enfants, les adolescents et des familles.
  • Admissibilité à l’inscription auprès de l’Association des travailleurs sociaux de la Nouvelle-Écosse.
  • Au moins deux (2) ans d’expérience dans un environnement de santé mentale pour patients hospitalisés et patients externes à offrir une évaluation indépendante et à assurer le traitement des troubles de santé mentale chez les enfants, les adolescents et leurs familles, y compris les troubles concomitants (consommation abusive de drogues, dépendance et maladie mentale).
  • Expertise confirmée en matière des principes de gestion du comportement, de thérapie comportementale et cognitive, de thérapie de groupe pour les enfants et les adolescents, et de modèles de thérapie brève.
  • Connaissance du DMS-V et capacité de l’utiliser pour évaluer et diagnostiquer les troubles courants de santé mentale chez les enfants (p. ex. anxiété, dépression, troubles de comportement) et capacité de déceler des troubles plus graves (p. ex. psychose, trouble bipolaire) et de faire les renvois appropriés.
  • Formation et expérience, exécution d’évaluations de la santé mentale et mise en place de plans de traitements basés sur les faits pour les enfants et les adolescents.
  • Connaissances et expérience confirmées dans l’évaluation psychologique des compétences sociales, affectives, scolaires, intellectuelles et en traitement de l’information des élèves pour faire l’évaluation des élèves et poser les diagnostics nécessaires, le tout afin de mieux comprendre les élèves et d’aider à préparer des programmes appropriés qui améliorent l’apprentissage et les résultats sociaux.
  • Capacité confirmée à préparer des rapports écrits et complets d’évaluation psychoéducative d’élèves, y compris les diagnostics, les techniques d’enseignement suggérées, les modifications à apporter et les autres stratégies utiles et pertinentes aux besoins d’un élève en particulier.
  • Connaissance et expérience en matière de consultation auprès des enseignants, des administrateurs et des parents sur le développement intellectuel, scolaire, social et affectif des élèves.
  • Excellentes compétences en présentation orale et écrite, en français et en anglais.
  • Capacité de travailler de façon autonome et flexible conformément aux politiques et aux normes des services de santé mentale et de traitement des dépendances de la Régie et du CSAP.
  • Permis de conduire valide et accès à un moyen de transport fiable.
