Job description: Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to lead high-level, complex research projects. Compared to Research Associates, these positions exercise greater input and judgment over the research, may be involved in setting research program objectives, and may be responsible for managing the team and project funds. Senior Research Associates would normally hold a doctoral degree or have equivalent qualifications and experience.Research, Analysis, and Data Management and Narrative StorytellingWork in a collaborative team environment, under the direction of PCC Directors – to help define, guide and achieve the goals of the research centre and associated funding requirements;Plan and conduct high-level research into concepts, theories, and strategies related to film making, narrative storytelling, community-based research, and participatory video production;Collaborate with fellow researchers in planning and conducting empirical data analysis;Obtain, store, synthesize, analyze, interpret, and translate and communicate qualitative data;Lead the development and maintenance of social science/qualitative databases and other data management and processing tools to support climate adaptation research and knowledge translation;Conduct high-level background research to guide qualitative research projects;Coordinate and conduct interviews for human focused research taking place with individuals and communities partnered with PCC;Support the development and implementation of research protocols and instruments (e.g., ethics protocols, consent procedures, interview protocol, remuneration details);Lead technical tasks such as system administration and data archiving, as required;Lead and oversee data management and processing, analysis, and interpretation for various projects; * Lead and oversee participatory research methods focused on climate change risk assessment and adaptation planning processes and projects with external partners;Contribute to narrative storytelling and qualitative research of the PCC;Utilize qualitative data to develop effective knowledge translation products with communities and other partners to increase capacity and resilience locally, regionally, and nationally, re climate change adaptation and mitigation;Lead the design and implementation of community-based research filmmaking with external partners; andMentor and guide other staff in conducting research and filmmaking activities at the Centre; andOther duties, as assigned.Community and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate projects to meet the organization’s goals and deliverables that are linked to various funding agreements and organizational strategic directions;
  • Engage individuals, communities, and other stakeholders across various sectors and disciplines to understand risks, opportunities, as well as best practices and gaps in knowledge related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. This includes liaising with partners, conducting interviews, facilitating workshops and gatherings, planning and delivering presentations, etc;
  • Develop knowledge translation content and innovative materials/tools to educate and create awareness across Canadian communities and/or among vulnerable populations on the risks and opportunities associated with climate change. Content includes, but is not limited to, the creation of articles, reports, graphics, and videos.
  • Create multi-media deliverables, visualization, online reports, publications, peer-reviewed journal articles, and in collaboration with other PCC staff;
  • Mentoring of students and staff working on active projects within the PCC.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree geography, social sciences, arts or equivalent qualifications and work experience
  • 10-15 years of experience in proposing, planning, writing, filming, and producing documentary films and other narrative storytelling media
  • 10-15 years of experience in the post-production and distribution of documentary films and other narrative storytelling media
  • Working knowledge of project management and programming techniques to optimize complex work flows that produce, manage, and archive very large datasets
  • Experience writing technical reports as well as reports and output intended for general audiences
  • Experience publishing and managing online content
  • Experience designing, building and publishing webpages is an asset
  • Experience operating content management systems including Youtube and Vimeo
