Job description: Dalhousie University, under the leadership of the Vice-President Research & Innovation, administers over $250M annually in research funding. As part of the Office of Research Services (ORS) and reporting to the Manager, Post Award, the Research Grants Officer is primarily responsible for the post-award facilitation and processing of newly-funded research applications, and facilitating the transfer of research funds between institutions.
Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with researchers, other Dalhousie central units and funding agencies, and advise on university and funding agency policies and procedures concerning funded awards.
  • Review and approve final award documentation, confirm the need for ethics approval, if applicable, and authorize Financial Services to open the research account.
  • Provide expert advice and assistance to ORS staff and researchers on areas such as ongoing compliance; university and granting agency policies, procedures and regulations; and research applications to internal programs
  • Support researchers in the transfer of funds/grants between institutions, ensure the transfer occurs in accordance with the university and funding agency’s policies and procedures, and initiate the transfer.
  • Maintain relationships with and respond to post-award queries from funding agencies, research grant administrators, and other units within ORS, Financial Services, and Dalhousie.
  • Support the ongoing operation of the internal ORS database.

NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree, with approximately three to five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated excellent client service experience working independently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with interpreting and administering compliance guidelines and requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail, and teamwork, communication and problem solving skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of commonly used office software packages, database experience and expertise.

  • Experience in a university environment in an area related to research grants administration and external funding agencies.
