Job description: Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.Position Overview:The position will involve assisting the primary investigator (Dr. Fredborg) in setting up and running psychology research experiments.Duties:
- Prepare equipment and materials for research.
- Employee will assist the primary investigator (PI) in acquiring relevant software and materials for studies.
- Perform academic research, standard tests and experiments.
- Employee will assist the primary investigator (PI) in data collection by running participants through experiments.
- Monitor and document research status and findings.
- Employee will assist with data collection, management, and statistics.
- Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations.
- Employee will assist the PI in writing the details of the studies up for publication.
- Prepare literature reviews.
- Employee will assist the PI in preparing several literature reviews.
- Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis and interpretation.
- Employee will assist with data collection, management, and statistics.
- Assist in the acquisition of research materials and supplies.
- Employee will assist with gathering study stimuli (e.g., videos, images, or audio files for experiments).
- Perform data/word processing, routine computations, and record keeping.
- Employee will assist with managing study progress through monitoring practices.
- Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
- Employee will assist with scheduling laboratory meetings and booking meeting space.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Employee must have or be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Biopsychology, Biochemistry or related discipline. If employee is still enrolled in university, they must have completed at least 3 years of full-time studies (90 credit hours).
- Employee must have completed courses in Introductory Psychology, Academic Writing, and Statistics.
- Familiarity with psychology experimental software (Qualtrics, SPSS, Zotero, and Excel). Graphic and web design is an asset (e.g., using SquareSpace).
- Other laboratory research experience is an asset.
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
