Visit us today and check out to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.About the OpportunityReporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the Registered Pharmacy Technician works as a member of the inter-professional team and participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient and family centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized. Working within their legislated scope of practice and scope of employment, the Pharmacy Technician assumes responsibility for their own actions, are accountable to the public and contribute as a healthcare professional to plan of care and function of pharmacy to ensure a safe and healthy environment. The Registered Pharmacy Technician functions are self-determined, assigned through management, the pharmacist, another Pharmacy Technician or as requested by other members of the care team.Responsibilities include medication dispensing and distribution, preparation and packaging of medications, medication reconciliation, drug access navigation, and clinical support; Inventory utilization and management; compounding of Sterile and non-sterile products, preparation of chemotherapy doses, narcotic control and distribution and participating in audits and quality programs. Additional activities as assigned may include; taking telephone clarifications from Physicians, narcotic destruction as mandated by Health Canada, providing technical information for patients on the proper use of drug related devices, acting as a preceptor for technician students and administering drugs by injection such as immunization for those with an active NSCP injection permit.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
  • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within the Province of Nova scotia will be considered
  • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, Pharmacy Practice Assistants may be considered
  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
