This supervisor will be the key lead in ensuring training standards are met and the development of practices to ensure continuous quality improvement of programs are implemented and adhered too. This position will require leadership and collaborative skills to direct and inspire a team of staff while working with internal and external divisional partners.Team Leadership
- Applies sound human resources management practices and is responsible for the safety of staff, volunteers and customers delivering and participating in programs and services with Recreation.
- Incorporating and strengthening collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Manage, coach and provide guidance to promote effective full and part-time employee relations and encourage increased morale, innovation and productivity to meet business needs.
- Manage the day-to-day supervision including planning/scheduling, work distribution/follow-up, training/coaching and monitoring of work conditions. This includes Human Resources administration, selection of full time and part time staff, compensation, performance evaluations, progressive discipline and dismissal.
Community Development
- Provide service delivery related to the business, maintenance, service, contracts and booking within the business.
- Direct delivery of programming and services through program teams to meet the needs of the communities.
- Partnership engagement, establishment and management to foster program development and delivery to address community needs.
- Develop outreach services to the surrounding community and establish a presence within the community.
- Leads the implementation of various agreements including community grants, partnerships, Ministry partnerships, etc.
- Works with National, international, regional and community organizations and related non-profit agencies, consultants and promoters to foster the growth and evolution of recreation, and sports programming and opportunities within the City of Brampton.
Customer Service
- Develop and implement a customer service plan to ensure quality service to users, maintaining the corporate image and ensuring that the business programs and services are profiled in a positive manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, with demonstrated interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with diverse stakeholders.
- Provides input to the development and implementation of service standards, policies and procedures for the Recreation Division.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of programming policies and standards to ensure that high-quality programs are available to all residents of Brampton, with a focus on community development and outreach to all neighbourhoods.
- Provides strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills to assess multiple issues, emergency situations, complex projects that lead to the development of resolution options, decision and implementation of decision necessary of efficient and effective operations and customer resolution.
- Ability to effectively respond to and resolve complex complaints and problems.
- Put in place processes, training, action plans and follow-up processes to respond effectively to emergencies and incidents.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents managing critical care, response and follow-up with staff, volunteers, customers, management and emergency teams.
Quality Assurance
- Reporting and following up on all incidents, accidents, property damage and theft, ensuring that the business and practices conform to relevant policies, procedures and legislation.
- Accountable for the compliance, monitoring, implementation and management of processes and systems (inclusive of health and safety) to ensure standards, policies and reporting requirements are adhered to and maintained
Program & Business Development
- Tracks trends and use knowledge management practices, best practices, changing community needs to ensure appropriate service delivery.
- Work with marketing team to manage business and marketing plans, operating budgets, financial systems and revenue generation while working with internal department staff and external community resources.
- Ensure all applicable federal and provincial programs, priorities, policies, standards and funding opportunities which could benefit local strategies, policies, standards and pursuit or funding are capitalized on in a strategic, timely and comprehensive manner.
- Develop work plans and allocate resources to ensure programs and services meet community needs and revenue projects are achieved.
- Provide timely communication and input operating budgets
- Prepare and manage operating budgets within the defined framework.
- Ability to manage, control and monitor multiple budget and allocate assets and resources
- Prepare various reports and present to elected officials and leadership team
- Participate in related corporate projects and initiatives ensuring the needs of recreation are represented and the skills from the division are offered and applied.
Training Development
- Provide leadership to the division as it relates to training standards that are in compliance with regulations, legislation, and corporate standards
- Work with divisional staff in an advising role to create learning and training modules and annual plans
- Leverage internal departmental and divisional contacts to facilitate learning and training when required
- Develop and facilitate training as required
- Provide oversight for the utilization of the learning management software and implementation within Recreation
- Report on training statistics and certification status of all Recreation staff
- Ability to provide direction and insight into the business of Recreation, inclusive of programming, budget, facility management, training standards, etc.
SELECTION CRITERIA:EDUCATION:
- University degree or college diploma in Recreation Studies or related field;
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a training and development setting, preferably within recreation environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
- Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset
- Ability to supervise, coach, motivate, discipline and develop employees;
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with internal and external customers;
- Excellent public relations skills and ability to effectively deal with the public;
- Able to successfully develop, lead and work within a customer-service oriented team environment;
- Well-developed time management and organization skills;
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation;
- Proficiency in MS Office, CLASS or related registration and booking software
