Management will encourage DOJ personnel to reconsider our approach to the services we provide and adapt to the changing environment.Communications: We are committed to improving the way we communicate internally with one another and externally to the public in order to better perform as a DOJ Team, share information and ideas with each other, dispel negative myths about the department and to ensure that the public has an appreciation for the excellent work we do.The Opportunity:Reporting to the Senior Investigator, the PSI Investigator reviews complaints under the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act (SCAN) and conducts plainclothes investigations into illegal activity involving drug trafficking, illegal activities related to prostitution, bootlegging, firearms trafficking, organized crime and sexual exploitation/abuse of children. The PSI Investigator performs covert surveillance; provides evidence and assistance to the courts for applications under the SCAN Act; testifies in Court: and liaises with police, justice & other agencies regarding implementation of the Act.   • Successful completion of comprehensive police or peace officer training from a recognized training academy or college, or related education and/or training may be considered.
  • Investigative experience in relation to law enforcement, corrections and/or peace officer positions:
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing evidence in accordance with the prescribed rules of evidence and in line with recognized investigative procedures;
  • Experience in interpreting and applying relevant legislation, preparing court affidavits and other necessary documents to testify before various levels of court; and
  • Investigative experience into illegal drug activity in a plain clothes covert capacity utilizing a variety of surveillance methodology, would be an asset.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Additional InformationConditions of Employment: Able to become authorized to carry firearms and be able to gain certification in firearm’s competency within 3 months of hire. Medical clearance, including vision and auditory. You will be required to undergo physical testing to demonstrate overall health and fitness. Successful completion of a Psychological Assessment. A declaration of any criminal convictions, and any convictions contrary to a Provincial or Territorial statute. A criminal record check and vulnerable security check, place(s) of employment reference check(s), personal suitability to the unit, and must possess a valid Yukon driver’s License (Class 5) or equivalent and provide a 10-year driver’s abstract. A background check will be conducted and completion of a Personal Disclosure Questionnaire.Job Requirements: Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel to rural communities. Position works on an averaging hours arrangement, 150 hours over 28 days.
