It offers courses and public programming, and it pursues a program of research and publishing. The teaching, community outreach and research focuses on the history of Canadians of German origin and, more broadly, migration and refugee history.The Project Assistant is a part-time (28 hours per week) term role supporting the Chair in German-Canadian Studies in research. The successful candidate will contribute to the processing of archival collections and oral history interviews.Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with the public about donations of private archival collections.
  • Helps the Chair assess collections, processes and digitizes collections and readies them for archiving.
  • Does archival, library, and online research in support of these processing tasks.
  • Communicates with UW Archivist to ensure alignment with UW Archival Standards.
  • Writes interview summaries, interviewee biographies, and project descriptions and does archival, library, and online research in support of these processing tasks.
  • Creates archival hard copies and digital copies of interviews.
  • Enters metadata in extant databases.
  • Communicates with interviewees about oral history interview editing and receiving copies.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. required, archival studies degree or archiving expertise and experience preferred.
  • One year experience in historical research in libraries and archives.
  • Experience in archiving.
  • Fluent English skills (writing, reading, and speaking) required.
  • Fluent German (listening, comprehension and writing) required.
  • MS Office and capacity and willingness to learn Oral History Metadata Synchronizer software (as well as other administrative programs as necessary) required.
