The City of Burnaby is searching for Park Patrollers who are responsible for supervising and maintaining sites by educating park users with City regulations. A Park Patroller plays an essential role in protecting City Parks and sites by taking appropriate action against activities such as drinking, vandalism, and suspicious loitering. Additional responsibilities include supervising and training parks patrol staff, delivering municipal mail, and performing minor building maintenance and repair duties. In this role, the Park Patroller assesses the condition of sports fields, and may close fields to park patrons to protect the community and prevent further damage, all while resolving routine complaints from patrons and providing excellent customer service. Performs related work as required.The ideal candidate will possess considerable knowledge of Park facilities and their location, uses, and hours of operations, as well as of the policies, procedures, and park regulations. Qualifications include up to high school graduation, supplemented by related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Sound knowledge of methods and materials, tools and equipment used in minor building repair work. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and prepare and maintain non-complex records and reports related to the work. Ability to deal tactfully, diplomatically, and effectively with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff. A Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.Hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements.
