Job description: Nurse Practitioner, Student Wellness CentrePRIMARY PURPOSE: The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who provides clinical services to students and their dependents. As a valued member of the interdisciplinary team of the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) this Nurse Practitioner facilitates ongoing communication and collaborates with team members to ensure that services are continuously evaluated and improved.NATURE OF WORK: The Nurse Practitioner reports to the Director of the Student Wellness Centre, is clinically supervised by the Senior Nurse Practitioner and collaborates with SWC team members of each program/service area.The Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care services to students based in Saskatoon and will provide virtual care to distributed sites. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to exercise initiative in all work activities independently. Collaboration with other health team members is ongoing and essential as a member of a primary health care team.Nurse Practitioners are part of the Student Wellness Centre team, which offers urgent and non-urgent physical and mental health services to U of S students and their dependents. The Student Wellness Centre serves a diverse student population with diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.The University of Saskatchewan values diversity and Indigenous engagement is a strategic priority. - Prompt Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of health problems of students and their dependents.
- Provide health care management, pharmaco-therapeutics and therapeutic interventions.
- Comply with approved medical records processes and documentation standards on our Electronic Medical Record (MedAccess).
- Comply with the terms of the Confidentiality Agreement and handle confidential information in a manner which will support patient and employee privacy.
- Provide health promotion and illness/injury prevention and engage in community development activities.
- An expressed commitment and experience with equity-deserving student populations. Proven sensibility and appreciation of the role that gender, race, disability, gender identity, sexuality, social background play in the experience of health and wellbeing.
- Accept responsibility for own practice, to act professionally and maintain level of competence.
- Maintain current registration with the Saskatchewan registered Nurses Association and meet Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner professional responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Maintain requirements for Nurse Practitioner continuing competencies.
- Collaborate with the College of Nursing serving as a preceptor for nursing students.
- Collaborate with the Health Education Coordinators in developing and implementing educational programs that address critical care issues.
- Organize and participate in staff in-service and education updates.
- Practice within a scope of practice specific to student health issues.
- Maintain patient safety and patient confidentiality.
- Practice competently to ensure health outcomes.
- Incorporate professional, legal and ethical decision-making guidelines into the RN NP practice.
- Comply with University and SWC Policy and Procedures.
- Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Student Wellness Services as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Registered Nurse designation from a recognized training institution. Current registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nursing Association and licensed as a Nurse Practitioner. Post RN advanced clinical nursing diploma or equivalent.Experience: The successful candidate will possess:
- A minimum of five years of experience in a primary care setting.
- Ability to work in collaboration with other health professionals and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work on own initiative.
- Expertise and experience in clinical treatment of a wide range of concerns that post-secondary and professional program students may experience including trauma, stress, depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship difficulties, eating/body image issues, transition issues and violence.

- Strong assessment and intervention skills
- Demonstrates commitment to working respectfully on a team which values and draws on a breadth of clinical perspectives.
- Commitment to serving the needs of a diverse student population. Demonstrated ability to provide services that are responsive and sensitive to the needs of specific populations including Indigenous students, international students, graduate students, racialized students, students with disabilities and LGBTQ2S+ students.
- Ability to handle interactions and maintain positive relations with diverse clients with tact, discretion, cultural sensitivity, and in a courteous, confidential, and professional manner.
- Ability to both work independently and coordinate services within an interprofessional health team in an efficient and effective manner.
