Job description: OverviewThis position is located in Hay River, NT.Working in a team environment, Mechanical CAD Technologist provides detailed drafting, copying, and drawing record services for the Engineering Department and Regional offices. Mechanical CAD Technologist assists Engineers and Technologists with drafting support services. Operates and maintains the CAD System in a network environment. Responsible for maintaining NTPC’s drafting standards and drawings. Review and verify all drawings produced within the Corporation and by consultants meet NTPC drafting standards.Responsibilities

• Provides civil, mechanical and electrical engineering design and As-Built drawings, single-line diagrams and distribution drawings using CAD technology
• Oversees work assignments of all in-house and outside agencies as necessary that are involved in producing civil, mechanical and electrical engineering design and as-built drawings using CAD technology ensuring that work is performed to NTPC drafting standards at all times.
• Arranges for retaining the services of outside agencies to provide additional drafting, design assistance, printing and copying serivces as necessary.
• Supervises other drafters by issuing work to other drafters as it comes from project managers/field workers/operations
• Responsible for current versions of AutoCAD and related third-party software ensuring all necessary versions and features are utilized
• Maintains a high level of technical expertise by applying CAD drafting work, learning new methods applicable to computerized drafting and by attending courses and seminars on an on-going, as-needed basis
• Provides written and verbal reports on drafting process, problems and other related matters on a regular basis
• Updates the drawing records on an on-going basis utilizing current electronic document management software
• Prepares and administers approved annual drafting budget for drafting software, equipment and supplies
• Organizes, maintains, improves and expands the drawing records and document control system
• Other duties as required

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology plus a minimum of two years mechanical CAD drafting experience directly related to Electric Utility Industry. Equivalencies may be considered.
• Proficient in the operation and knowledge of AutoCAD and related third party software is essential.
• Above average computer knowledge and experience using spreadsheets, DBMS, word processing, project scheduler and other related software.
• Good keyboarding skills essential.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Team player with ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must undergo a successful criminal records check.

This is a bargaining unit position. Salary for this position ranges from $48.80/hr to $59.29/hr., plus a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum.
