Be sure to indicate your faculty and program, your current year, expected graduation date.Hiring Unit: Teaching & Learning (Marvin Duchow Music Library)Job Title: MDML Student Project Assistant – AV Archival Processing (Hertz Berkson Fonds)Reports to: Head LibrarianHour of work: 12 hoursHourly Rate: $15.85Classification: AMUSE ADuration: September – December 24, 2024Position Summary:The student in this position will work on a project related to AV collections. The project involves documenting and transcribing metadata of all audiovisual assets found in the Yaëla Hertz Berkson Fonds. In addition, the student will transfer audio content stored on optical discs (CDs) from this collection to the Marvin Duchow Music Library’s digital preservation repository, Gomez, and will assist with file naming and minimal organization of these assets. The student will also create digital surrogates of the textual documents found in the carriers which will be kept with the digital audio assets for preservation and access purposes. Occasionally, the work may entail assisting with housing and occasional shifting of AV materials in the Audiovisual Archives, and performing other supplementary tasks as assigned.Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:Excellent knowledge of music and music materials, preferably with some formal training. Knowledge of music AV formats, as well as audio and video equipment and materials. Demonstrated organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to clearly transmit and receive information. Must be user-focused and service-oriented. Demonstrated ability to cope with physical requirements: handling, carrying, and lifting of library materials. Library or similar experience preferred. English: spoken, read and written.
