Job description: This opportunity is for a permanent position working 75 hours biweeklyThe Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board (WSCB) administers workplace health and safety and workers’ compensation in the territory. WSCB’s mission is to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses in partnership with employers and workers and to support workers when injuries occur. We take care of injured workers by facilitating their stay at work, return to work and recovery.Values:

The Role:
Reporting to the Director, Legal Services; the Manager, Legal Services is responsible for providing legal services and support to the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board (WSCB) to ensure that the administration of the workers’ safety and compensation systems are conducted lawfully, in compliance with the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act and other relevant legislation. The Manager, Legal Services also administers, reviews and provides decisions on matters adjudicated under the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Act. The reviews occur in a quasi-judicial setting and contribute to the WSCB meeting its legislated mandate. This includes internal review of workers’ compensation decisions, workplace health and safety orders and decisions, employer assessment decisions and administrative penalties.Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in law.
  • Experience in the application of procedural fairness, the principles of natural justice and the ability to weigh evidence and render reasoned written decisions.
  • Significant experience in adjudication, including the interpretation of legislation, evidence and conducting hearings or file reviews.
  • Experience researching, analyzing and providing recommendations on legal issues and case law.
