With a customer-first mindset, we make doing business with McCain easy.About the role.The Manager of Health, Safety, and Security is part of the Leadership Team at the Site providing guidance and strategic direction to leaders and ensures they are prepared to respond to emergencies by keeping the plant emergency action and crisis management plan up to date. You will lead with a proactive approach of continuous improvement in health, safety, and security and ensure emergency preparedness, crisis management, audit readiness, and compliance with company and regulatory agencies.What you’ll be doing.

  • Ensure compliance with governmental and McCain health, safety and security requirements.
  • Act as the primary plant representative for regulatory site visits and inspections.
  • Engage with stakeholders in and outside the plant utilizing internal and external resources to stay abreast of developments in the health and safety & security area via professional associations, workshops, etc.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure Site, employee, and contractor compliance with company and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with other facility functions to ensure new products, capital projects, and functional activities are aligned with facility health & safety objectives and injury prevention.
  • Implement McCain’s “Key Elements of Safety (KES)” of the health & safety management process and Cultural Assessment process.
  • Facilitate employee safety committees and act as a resource for department health & safety meetings.
  • Learn and develop the key skills required to implement continuous improvement disciplines into the safety improvement process (MDI). Participate and coordinate activities such as Kaizen events, and training/education in various continuous improvement processes.
  • Develop and utilize tools that will maximize the effectiveness and measurement of progress with leading and lagging indicators.
  • Manage Worker’s Compensation in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Plan, budget, and execute specific programs and activities to prevent employee injury and illness and increase employee well-being.
  • Manage in-plant security systems and the security team. Assist in Food Safety & Security as needed or requested.

What you’ll need to be successful.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent (Industrial Hygiene or Engineering).
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent experience as a health & safety professional.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive and applicable experience in the field is required.
  • Working knowledge of governmental occupational health & safety requirements and worker’s compensation/Work safe is required.
  • Training experience and bilingual language skills are a plus.
  • ISO Management Systems experience is preferred
  • Good working knowledge of human resources and health & safety information systems.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience using/implementing other specialized software/EMIS platforms (Intelex).

About the team.This is a highly visible position with significant influence over the plant’s culture. The Health & Safety Manager leads a team of six direct reports, including the Site Safety Coordinator, Fire Prevention Technician, and four Security Guards. The role reports directly to the Plant Manager, with a strong dotted-line relationship to the Regional Director of Health & Safety. Success in this position requires strong communication skills, effective prioritization, and the ability to balance competing demands. This dual reporting structure allows the organization to benefit from robust local leadership while ensuring alignment with regional functional standards and best practices.#LI-MN1Compensation Package: $97,500.00 – $130,000.00 CAD annually + bonus eligibilityThe above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting.
