Job description: Job Description:Wood is currently seeking a Manager – Estimating Canada (Minerals & Metals) in order to grow its Canadian Minerals & Metals (M&M) group to meet the large demand in critical minerals & metals projects.Wood is at the forefront of engineering solutions for a net zero future. A key component of decarbonising the world is the Minerals & Metals Industry which supplies the critical minerals required for this revolution. Wood is currently delivering critical M&M projects all over the world, including Copper, Lithium, Vanadium, Rare Earths, and Base Metals projects.Reporting to the Operations Director, this full time permanent position will be based in Vancouver, BC, Saskatoon, SK or in Oakville, ON and aimed at the compilation of all classes of cost estimating from Definitive Feasibility through to EPCM estimates.Salary Range: CAD $160,000 – $190,000 per yearWood offers a competitive Total Rewards Package, which includes a comprehensive Health & Wellness Plan, Health Care Spending Account, matching Group Registered Retirement Savings Program, Employee Assistance Program, and so much more! Final salary will be based on relevant and applicable experience, education, and the specific skill set and qualifications required for the role.Responsibilities:In this highly visible role, duties will include (but not limited to) the following: –
- Overall management of the Estimating function across the Minerals & Metals Canadian operations
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive estimating strategy and operation that aligns with the company’s business and project objectives.
- In conjunction with the corporate leadership team, participate in the formation, improvements and subsequent project implementation of the estimating portion of the corporate Project Management Plan, including Policies, Procedures, Instructions, Forms and Standards.
- Prepare, maintain, and assure compliance with procedures, quality control standards, best practice and provide guidance and direction to staff on projects
- Ensure adequate training programs are identified, developed, and maintained.
- Recruit, interview, evaluate, and manage staffing levels to ensure project staffing and utilization targets are achieved
- Conduct staff performance and personal development reviews, and provide recommendations for promotion, salary levels, work assignment and external training programs
- Oversee the development, mentoring, and training of the estimating team for their personal development and to support projects.
- Assign qualified staff to projects in coordination with the project managers, as required by the project staffing plans
- Provide technical estimating support to the team for activities, such as:
- Project quantities and costs in the preparation of cost estimates
- Appropriate data sources to determine material and labour requirements
- Client, vendor, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
- Analyse and maintain historical data to establish standard hours for various disciplines
- Cost factors for inclusion in estimates and determining cost effectiveness
- Preparation of reports including Basis of Estimate, Estimate Development Plan and Capital Cost Estimate
- Provide input in the areas of execution plans, hours estimate, and resourcing for proposals
- Provide business development and client relations support, as required
- Promote, supervise, and monitor compliance with Wood HSSE, Risk Management and Quality Management procedures for department administrative and project work
- Participate in corporate, office, and project audits related to Estimating functions
- Maintain a strong network both within and outside of the estimating department.
- Act as a role model and champion Woods vision, values, and behaviours.
- As required, take Estimating Management role on a project.
The successful candidate will be able to think broadly and apply estimating skills across a range of disciplines. We are looking for that unique individual that will have the ability to combine extensive study estimating experience with a flexible approach to develop realistic estimates.Qualifications:
- Relevant technical diploma/university degree with a minimum of 10 years estimating experience on heavy industrial projects
- Strategic thinker contributing to the management and improvement of the overall business objectives and projects
- Minerals and Metals experience in an EPCM environment would be an asset
- Fully conversant in the use of MS Excel, Word and Access (Experience with an Estimating Software package highly regarded)
- Sufficient construction multidisciplinary estimating knowledge and experience in the minerals / mining resources industry to compile all aspects of estimates
- Specialized skills and knowledge base necessary to produce all classifications of estimates
- Excellent English language skills; written, oral and presentation
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
- Enthusiastic proactive attitude providing inspiring leadership
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
