The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.About the OpportunityReporting to, and in collaboration with, the Manager of Library Services, the Librarian Educator supports the evidence-informed practice requirements in patient care, management, research, and education. The Librarian Educator supports the process by which health care providers know how to find, critically appraise, and use the best evidence for decision-making, and consults and collaborates with all team members including physicians, researchers, patient education teams, and clinical team members.Please note this position is a hybrid position, which will require travel to the Nova Scotia Hospital – Hugh Bell Library location at a minimum once per week on a regular basis. A valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.Major ResponsibilitiesThe primary purpose of the Librarian Educator role is to support the library’s literature searching efforts through the:

  • Delivery of well-considered and structured search results in a timely manner
  • Application of internal standards when performing the searches
  • Application of advanced searching strategies, including application of PICO(T) search strategies
  • Application of critical appraisal skills
  • Knowledge and comfort searching library digital resources/collections
  • Knowledge and comfort searching PubMed and grey literature sources
  • Knowledge and comfort supporting systematic review/knowledge synthesis projects
  • Knowledge and comfort supporting systematic review/knowledge synthesis projects

This position may also be called upon to provide collaborative leadership support in the following aspects of the library’s overall operations:

  • Engagement and Web Presence
  • Patient Education Materials
  • Literature Search

About the Opportunity ContinuedMore specifically, you may be called upon to:

  • Step in and support library teams in the absence of the regularly assigned Librarian Educator
  • Be current in content management practices, industry relevant technologies, and library resources
  • Work collaboratively with library peers to identify opportunities, implement standards, and support the current Library Services activities and initiatives
  • Lead through measured decision-making
  • Deliver outcome supported committee/teamwork goals and project planning and implementation
  • Train users in new and emerging technologies
  • Assume the role of site lead supporting the work of Library staff reporting to that site if needed
  • Travel within the province for assigned duties
  • Valid driver’s license required

About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • ALA accredited Master of Library and Information Services/Master of Information required
  • A minimum of 3 years responsible experience in a hospital library or equivalent setting, a medical research library, or an Academic Health Sciences Library is required
  • Commitment to attain the credential within one year of employment to Membership in the Academy of Health Professionals (AHIP) (preferred), Canadian College of Health Leaders, or an approved equivalent credential
  • Current in content management practices, industry relevant technologies, and library resources
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Articulate e-learning software, etc.
  • Knowledge of health information resources (i.e. PubMed, NLM, LCSH) is an asset
  • Application of plain language standards supporting patient care quality outcomes
  • Working knowledge of content management software, such as Spring share
  • Ability to develop working relationships with counterparts within and outside the organization
  • Working knowledge of intellectual property legislation and regulations, including copyright, database licensing
  • Experience with current and emerging web design and mobile technologies such as CANVA, XML/XSLT, HTML/CSS, Bootstrap, PHP/MySQL, Python, APIs
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
