Job description: Health Education CoordinatorThe Student Wellness Centre is an interdisciplinary health clinic for University of Saskatchewan students. One of the centres strengths is the health outreach program that recruits and trains students from all colleges to provide Peer to peer health outreach. The USask Peer Health program is the largest and oldest student volunteer wellness program within Saskatchewan and plays a lead role in the development of similar provincial programs.Primary Purpose The Health Education Coordinator provides leadership in development, implementing and evaluating, vision and continuous improvement of a comprehensive student wellness outreach program. The coordinator engages with University departments and colleges to implement the University Wellness strategy through the development of a successful peer-to peer health outreach program.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Student Wellness Centre Director, the responsibilities of this position are diverse, and respond according to the needs of students and health issues that arise in the student body. The Health Education Coordinator is an active member of the Student Wellness Centre leadership team. Strong relationship building skills, understanding and respect of diversity and physical and mental health issues common to post-secondary students are key components to this role.Accountabilities:

  • Develop strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for health promotion.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, approach to health for students.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and analysis of periodic student health surveys that provide baseline data, identify health needs and priorities, evaluate effectiveness of interventions and track trends in student health status and behaviour.
  • Determine staffing needs. Hire, train, and supervise student staff.
  • Incorporate diversity, inclusivity, social justice and health equity concepts and principles into health promotion services.
  • Plan, administer, and manage operating budgets. Seek out and apply for additional grants as needed.
  • Actively participate on Student Wellness, student leadership and other professional leadership teams
  • Motivate, mentor inspire and develop
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications: An undergrad degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. A combination of education and directly relevant experience will be considered.Experience: At least five years of health promotion work working with diverse populations. Must have a demonstrated understanding of health issues within marginalized communities and experience planning programs for equity-deserving groups. Experience should include contribution to unit-level strategy development and implementation, staff supervision, data and survey implementation, and program design. Experience in health care, a primary health care clinic, or a student health services or wellness unit would be preferred.Skills: The successful applicant will demonstrate highly developed interpersonal skills, and strong oral and written communication skills. The incumbent will demonstrate an ability to recruit and train effective volunteer teams, and the ability to work collaboratively both within a diverse team and across multiple department/units. They will have the ability to juggle many tasks and projects and meet multiple priorities and deadlines. Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications is required as well as strong knowledge of Social Media and other trending communication platforms. The ability to interpret, trend and analyze data is required.Department: Student Wellness Centre
