Our graduate programs support the training and education of future Indigenous leaders through innovative models of governance and nationhood that draw inspiration from Indigenous ways of knowing and learning, community-based research practices, and intersectional, critical, and Indigenous feminist approaches.Under the supervision of the Academic Administrative Officer, the Graduate Secretary provides essential administrative and secretarial support to the school. This role encompasses graduate secretary duties, program administration and office support, while closely collaborating with the Director and Graduate Advisor to ensure smooth operations.Job RequirementsExperience:
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to 1 years’ experience working within a comparable environment.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with computer applications (i.e., MS-Office 365,).
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time and tasks with attention to detail.
- Ability to problem solve by using judgement, independent thinking and/or analysis.
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences.
- Experience composing various communications such agendas and minutes.
- Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities/organizations is an asset

Preference will be given to applicants with:
- Experience with UVic information systems.
- Experience working with Graduate Admissions and Records, Faculty of Graduate Studies, FAST, Banner, and SharePoint.
- Experience working with Graduate students or Graduate programs.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required to assist with IGOV events.
Specialized Knowledge/Education:
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Indigenous nations’ histories and protocols and the impacts of colonial history.
