The successful candidate will join our Power Production – Hydro Operations team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Hydro Superintendent, you will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Hydro system. Key elements of this role include::As an Electrician Technician:You will be responsible for system trouble shooting and timely resolution of electrical deficiencies. You must develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the purpose and operation of all electrical/electronic equipment on the hydro system, including PLC’s, solid state relaying, remote SCADA telemetry and all associated protection equipment, together with a good understanding of all mechanical equipment and civil works.You will be responsible for performing electrical/electronic maintenance, issuing safe work permits, and assisting with equipment overhauls. You will be required to assist with general operations and maintenance activities related to head gates and water control structures, emergency manning of stations and other assigned duties.You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province. You may be required to travel to other sites for extended periods of time.You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure. These skills will make you successful::You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:You must have a Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with eligibility for membership with TechNova.You must have two years’ experience maintaining electrical equipment related to power generation.You must have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments and a strong mechanical aptitude.You must be proficient with troubleshooting electrical / electronic equipment, a demonstrated understanding of electrical drawings as well as software use and programming in an industrial setting.You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, have a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.You must have the skills and physical capabilities to perform all duties, including working at considerable heights and within watercourses.If no qualified candidates apply, consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to complete an apprenticeship program within Nova Scotia Power.You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License with a minimum of two years driving experience and provide a driver’s abstract satisfactory to NSPI.Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of the 5548 St. Margarets Bay Road (St. Margarets Bay Hydro depot), and you will be required to take on call rotation and work other than normal hours and/or in extreme conditions. Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:Must be able to lift 37 lbs. from the floor to shoulder level on an occasional basis and 10 lbs. above shoulder level.Able to carry 37 lbs. with both hands on an occasional basis, with the overall ability to carry 30 lbs.Able to push and pull with upper and whole-body strength on an occasional basis up to 50 lbs.Perform static reaching at waist to shoulder level frequently and from below waist level to overhead on an occasional basis.Perform frequent standing and sitting.Perform occasional bending, stooping, walking and neck flexion, extension, and rotation movements.Perform squatting, kneeling, crouching, and climbing on a minimal basis.Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a simple to firm grasp while performing turning and pinching motions.
