We are looking for a Design Engineer, Communications to join our team!What You Will DoReporting to the Senior Design Engineer, Communications, you will provide expertise in relation to engineering work associated with the design, operations, maintenance and rehabilitation of TTC’s structures, systems, and/or equipment.Other responsibilities of your role will include:

  • Providing complex engineering design expertise in relation to design work associated with the TTC’s communications and other systems such as Intercom Systems, Public Address Systems and Telephony Systems and associated networks.
  • Preparing drawings, estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures, designs and schedules for new installations, rehabilitation and emergency work.
  • Solving design problems using standard procedures and/or modifications, conducting independent studies and analyses as well as preparing interpretations and conclusions using recognized standards.
  • Checking electrical designs and assisting in the overall coordination of projects prepared/conducted by internal engineering or external consultants.
  • Providing design support and guidance to maintenance staff during and outside of normal working hours on a 24-hour basis as required and tracking all assigned engineering deliverables.
  • Preparing work plans, reports and recommendations for individual contracts.
  • Investigating, evaluating and testing new, existing or proposed communications systems and components and providing reports and recommendations for the utilization, modification, etc. of such systems.
  • Taking professional responsibility for the designs as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Your application will demonstrate several years of directly related experience with Intercom Systems, Public Address Systems and modern Telephony Systems.
  • Your registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario as a Professional Engineer is required.
  • Your experience in the application of electrical engineering principles, methods and practices will benefit you in this role.
  • Your application will also reveal your experience with conducting communications related tests and interpreting the results.
  • Your knowledge of communications equipment, electronic testing equipment, computers, and vital on-line applications and other associated equipment utilized, maintained and rehabilitated by the Communications Engineering section will contribute to your success in this role.
  • You will have sound judgement and well-developed technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and technical report writing skills.
  • In addition, you will be computer literate with a strong knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work (e.g. MS Office, MS Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Your application will reveal your experience with CADD systems (preferably MicroStation CADD).
  • You will be familiar with the applicable codes, practices and standards. Additionally, you will possess knowledge of the Commission’s communication systems as well as the various functions carried out by the S/E/C Department.
