Our strategic plan is available online at:For more information on the Faculty of Health, Community and Education please visit our webpage at:About the RoleReporting to the Academic Director, Midwifery, the Coordinator, Practicum and Academic Advising is pivotal in managing student services for the Bachelor of Midwifery (BMid) program. This full-time role (35 hours per week) involves coordinating practicum placements, advising students, and contributing to the day-to-day operations of the program.The Coordinator ensures students have access to the necessary information and resources to progress successfully through the program, meet graduation and registration requirements, and navigate university policies and procedures. In addition to managing practicum placements, the Coordinator develops and updates student resources, serves as the program’s Instructional Assistant, and oversees scheduling activities for the BMid program.Responsibilities1. Practicum Placement Coordination:Coordinate all practicum placements and related activities to ensure BMid students meet program requirements.Act as a liaison between the BMid program and practicum sites, including midwifery practices, registered midwives, obstetricians, and other health organizations.Develop and maintain preceptor agreements and contact information.Organize preceptor workshops and provide ongoing support and resources to clinical instructors.Address practicum-related issues, including risk management and resolution of placement concerns.2. Academic Advising:Provide academic and career advising to prospective, new, and current BMid students.Assist students in understanding program requirements, university policies, and graduation criteria.Organize group advising sessions and track student progression throughout the program.Support the admissions team by developing advising materials and assisting with decision-making.Coordinate the admission process, including orientation programs, registration advising, and transfer credit assessments.3. Program Operations:Act as the program’s Instructional Assistant, supporting faculty in scheduling and administrative activities.Coordinate class and exam schedules in collaboration with faculty and administrative staff.Maintain and update the program communication platforms.Develop and update student resources to enhance the advising experience.Facilitate collaboration with campus resources, such as Wellness Services, to address student needs.4. Partner Engagement and Outreach:Promote the BMid program through professional outreach to midwifery practices, health organizations, and other collaborators.Represent the BMid program positively in all professional interactions, fostering strong relationships with external and internal partners.QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) or equivalent.Minimum of 3 years of experience in an educational environment, with student advising experience or knowledge of academic requirements.Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage difficult conversations and expectations.Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.Critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external partners.Proficiency in computer and software technology.Customer service and public relations skills to interact effectively with diverse personalities.Familiarity with Mount Royal University departments, staff, and faculty roles is preferred.Closing Date: January 20, 2025 (Strong Internal Candidate)A cover letter and resume should be submitted in one .pdf document.
