Job description: I am in need of a friendly and outgoing Health Care provider to offer companionship and aid in daily tasks for my 73-year-old father. He sustained a brain injury in an accident over three decades ago. He is fairly independent as long as he has stability and routine in his life. My father thrives on routine and he’ll look to you for cues on when to shower, and to change his clothes. You will be pivotal in enabling his independence while ensuring his personal hygiene and dignity is maintained. Apart from this, he needs assistance with basic housekeeping chores and laundry. Any additional support would fall under the purview of general household duties. Top on his list of things he enjoys is an active social life and exploring our beautiful city, Calgary. We are new to Calgary coming from Ontario and therefore there will be unlimited things for you to show him and places to take him to while you explore the city with him. He is eager to meet someone who would be happy to accompany him to various activities like car shows, movies, bowling, restaurants, parks, live music events, and even the zoo. His favourite thing to do is ride his electric 3 wheel mobility bike and explore the bike paths. He would love someone to ride their own bike with him and show him around. He is a character, full of life, always ready with a joke intended to make you laugh. I am looking for 2-3 providers to work 2 to 3 days per week for 3-4 hours each day for a total of 6-12 hours total each week per provider. The reason I’m looking for 2-3 providers instead of just one is because dad likes to have multiple friends and to him these are his friends. A valid driver’s license and a vehicle in good working condition is essential for social outings as well as groceries and medical appointments. Job responsibilities include a range of tasks from cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming, washing dishes by hand to planning meals and grocery shopping. As a care provider, visits and outings need to be planned. You also need to be there to assist with grooming and dressing. Anyone willing to work on this profile should preferably have experience managing diabetes and individuals with ABI. The preferred start date for this role would be mid August, 2025.
