It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.This position lives and works in the village of in the beautiful and also involves travel to other such as the Dawson City Hub.MayoThis position offers an incredible opportunity to work as a Clinical Counsellor in the Village of Mayo. The village of Mayo, Yukon, is located at the confluence of the Mayo and Stewart rivers, approximately 400 km north of Whitehorse, and is situated within the traditional territory of the Na-Cho Nyak Dun First Nation who have lived here for thousands of years. The First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun represents the most northerly community of the Northern Tutchone language and culture group. The First Nation has been actively involved in affairs of the Mayo community, attempting to promote a better, healthier lifestyle for its future generations and a strong economy based on its abundant natural resources. Teams are made up of Child, Youth and Family Counsellors, Community Counsellors, Mental Health Support Workers, and Mental Health Nurses who provide individual and group counselling, outreach services, harm reduction support, workshops, and community support. This dynamic and strength-based team prioritizes collaboration with h First Nation governments and community partners to help enhance the well-being of Yukoners in rural communities.Your roleAs a Clinical Counsellor you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide responsive and relevant individual and group programming to individuals living in Mayo and the surrounding communities struggling with mental wellness and/or substance use challenges. Services include, but are not limited to, individual and group counselling, assessment and treatment planning, referrals to specialty programs, after care supports, harm reduction and psychoeducational groups, community programing, workshops and support at community events. You will collaborate with community partners and the Health and Wellness team of Nacho Nyäk Dun First Nation to ensure services are culturally grounded and responsive to community needs.The ideal candidate for this position is someone who works well both independently and as part of a supportive, diverse, multidisciplinary team. They understand the nuances of community work, have values grounded in a strengths-based approach and are comfortable supporting individuals where they are at on their healing journey. - Completed master’s degree in social work, psychology or counselling
- Experience providing assessment, treatment planning and intervention in a mental health setting
- Experience providing case management services
- Experience providing counselling, in an individual and/or group format
- Experience collaborating with First Nation Governments and other community partners considered an asset

- Effective written and oral communication supported by strong conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to complete and maintain comprehensive clinical records.

- Verification of post-secondary degree(s)
- RCMP Security clearance with Vulnerable Sector
- TB screening
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent
- WHMIS 2015 (within one month of hire)
- Standard First Aid (within 6 months of starting position)
Job requirementsThis job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Work place stresses may arise from supporting clients who may have experienced a variety of mental health struggles such as trauma, substance use, depression, etc.
- May work with individuals who exhibit unpredictable or reactive behaviour
- Required to travel to communities on a regular basis during all weather conditions.
