Performance range: starting salary to max of $118,764 is available through annual performance increases.Job SummaryThe Associate Director, Career Development and Experiential Learning is responsible for managing a comprehensive career development program that supports employability and graduate outcomes for undergraduate, graduate, and Continuing studies students, and alumni. The Associate Director is also responsible for strategic direction, development, and relationship-building to support experiential learning for undergraduate and graduate students, with particular focus on co-curricular experience and curricular community-engaged learning.Receiving supervision from the Director, Operations and Strategy and working directly with the Executive Director, Co-operative Education Program and Career Services, and the Deans, Associate Deans, and/or unit heads, the Associate Director, Career Development and Experiential Learning, will develop strategies for, and manage the planning, marketing, and delivery of, career and experiential learning programs across all UVic faculties. The Associate Director, Career Development and Experiential Learning, will work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure the effective functioning of the unit and provide direction for program marketing to build and develop relationships with employers and community partners locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, the Associate Director will be responsible for administration, budget planning, and allocation of resources, and will provide leadership and management to a team of professional and support staff. Some travel, within Victoria, including overnight throughout Canada and internationally, will be required.As a professional member of the Co-op and Career Services team, the Associate Director supports delivery of services, initiatives, and programs as required to meet service standards and expectations.Job RequirementsThe successful candidate will have a related graduate degree in an appropriate discipline and at least five years of management and/or related work experience and a strong directly relevant professional network. An equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience may be considered where appropriate.In addition, the position requires the following skills and/or experience:

  • Background in educational program delivery
  • Course work and/or certification in career development
  • Experiential learning program experience
  • Client relationship management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Tact and diplomacy, with the capacity to collaborate, negotiate, and build consensus with a variety of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to effectively administer, organize, plan, and manage time
  • Sound judgment in the wording and the inclusion of pertinent and sensitive information and the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Financial acumen and understanding of budget management
