As a non-profit centre, within the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta, our focus on research and education allows us to deliver innovative programs and share knowledge and expertise with community recreation and physical activity leaders across Alberta.You can learn more about The Steadward Centre for Personal & Physical Achievement on our website at .PositionThe Adapted Physical Activity Consultant (APA) – Free2BMe will play a key role in adapted physical activity programming at The Steadward Centre. You will be responsible for designing and implementing programming across The Steadward Centre, with an increased focus on Free2BMe initiatives. With a focus on physical literacy, this means you will be working primarily with children and youth to support participants in developing skills and knowledge towards active lifestyles while building choice and independence in a fun, social environment. As a member of the APA Consultant Team, you may also support group and 1:1 fitness and exercise programming across the centre, including adult participants.Duties

  • Develop and deliver activity/exercise programming for kids, youth, and adults experiencing disability.
  • Conduct facility tours, consultations, and fitness assessments for kids, youth, and adults experiencing disability
  • Respond to general inquiries about the program.
  • Engage in outreach and information-sharing activities with identified organizations (e.g., Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, Adaptabilities, etc.).
  • Develop and deliver individualized physical activity plans for participants to meet their individual goals (e.g., enhancing physical literacy).
  • Prepare exercise prescriptions for persons experiencing disability in accordance with evidence-based and/or CSEP protocols where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, or other related field.
  • First Aid and CPR Level C is required.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable in response to individual needs.
  • CSEP-CEP or CSEP-CPT preferred.
