Job description: Job Title: 1:1 Support CoachSalary: 18.22/hrHours: This position is Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. -2:30 p.m. and is for 27.5 hours a week for a one-year term.POSITION SCOPE:Utilizing person-directed plans, the 1:1 Coach will implement social, leisure, recreation and work programs in various locations in the community, provide personal care and maintain safety and cleanliness of the workspace.The 1:1 Coach must have a vehicle in good, safe working order, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and 2 million dollars in insurance. A current criminal record check along with a vulnerable sector search is required.The individual in this position reports to the Program Manager.This position supports a female in her forties.RESPONSIBILITIES:FUTURES supports healthy relationships between and among all of the people and organizations with whom we deal, internally and externally. The 1:1 Coach will contribute to this direction through their respectful behavior and attitude towards others.The 1:1 Coach supports people in maximizing their independence and self-reliance by providing opportunities for continuous learning and by supporting and respecting self-determination through person-directed planning.The 1:1 Coach will represent Building Futures in a positive and professional manner, both onsite and in the community. Professionalism will be demonstrated by dress, attitude and all work-related interactions. Staff of Building Futures are also expected to maintain an appropriate image within the community such as when on personal social media sites.Professional communication is an expectation. All forms of communication will be respectful, clear, accurate and effective. Written documentation will be professional and will demonstrate proficiency with written English.Building Futures is committed to maintaining workplaces and working conditions that are healthy and safe for all. The 1:1 Coach is jointly responsible for ensuring that our workplace and working conditions are safe and healthy by correcting and reporting any and all hazards as per policy.DUTIES:A. PROGRAM
- Implement programs (social, leisure, recreation, work) in consultation with the supervisor.
- Initiate activities when not scheduled for specific programs.
- Assist in the planning of special events/outings.
- Transport participant to community functions.
B. PERSONAL SUPPORT SERVICES
- Provide personal care to participant as required in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Assist as needed with meals and snacks as per individual preferences/requirements.
- Provide appropriate role modelling for participants through behavior, dress and attitude and support participants to do the same.
- Always ensure the safety and security of participant while respecting their choices.
- Support participant with activities they enjoy i.e. walks, outings, volunteering, games, swimming etc.
- Encourage and facilitate peer interaction.
C.COMMUNICATION
- Communicate any concerns, changes or questions to the supervisor.
- Ensure the development of good working relationships, and effective participant support, through communication with the participant, supervisor, co-workers, parent/caregivers and service providers.
- Ensure appropriate and accurate written communication.
- Prepare for and participate in staff meetings.
- Read and keep up to date on all written reports, documentation as appropriate.
D.ORGANIZATIONAL
- Work effectively and efficiently while meeting timelines.
- Assist in maintaining proper organization of supplies and materials.
E. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
- Meet basic work requirements, i.e. on time, appropriate appearance, alert, dependable, courteous.
- Ensure work conditions are safe and maintain cleanliness.
- Display a positive attitude, be open to new ideas and contribute to staff morale.

- As a not for profit, we do participate in fundraising events and it is appreciated when staff participates.
F. OTHER RELATED DUTIES
- Assist with medication dispensing in accordance with policy as needed.
- Able to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook and familiar with Microsoft Excel.
- Attend training when scheduled to do so.
- Assist with cleaning and maintenance of workspace.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education in the human services field
- Experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities.
- 7 core competencies as required by Community Services, at start date or within 3 months of employment.
- A vehicle in good, safe working order, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and appropriate insurance.
- A criminal record check and vulnerable sector search completed within the past 3 months is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Position requires work at various places and in varying conditions; this may include indoors, outdoors; work environments that are cold, hot, wet, loud, etc.
- This position does require physical activity (standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing people in wheelchairs etc.)
- Strength to handle loads up to 50 lbs. may be required and regular loads of 35 lbs.
- Physical stamina to be able to work for 5.5 hours in a fast paced environment.
