You’ll love it here too.The opportunityThe Senior Data Scientist will lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics models and solutions to drive customer insights, financial forecasting, risk management, and cost efficiency initiatives at Canadian Western Bank. Working closely with the Enterprise Analytics and Business teams, this role will leverage cutting-edge machine learning techniques and statistical models to drive efficiency gains, enhance decision-making processes, optimize customer experiences, and mitigate financial risks.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIESAccountability #1 – Client SupportPartner with business stakeholders to solution their objectives using advanced analytics and information products that enable better and faster decisions.Provide advice and support for the planning of long term or short term business objectives or initiatives.Build advanced and explainable frameworks and models to classify objects, predict outcomes or make recommendations.Utilize predictive modeling and data analytics to gain insights into customer behaviors, preferences, and trends, aiming to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction.Ensure completed solutions meet specified requirements of stakeholders.Lead projects through planning, execution, and delivery, communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Effectively communicate and build rapport with team members and business stakeholders.Develop and build strong relationships within and across the lines of business and use effective communication skills to influence and accomplish strategic AI/ML objectives.Develops the design and development best practices and guidelines.Monitor and remediate all issues with deployed AI/ML models.Coach and mentor other members of the Data Science team to further their technical expertise.Perform and support daily tasks such as job scheduling, monitoring, troubleshooting and remediation.Support testing of solutions in all applicable environments.Support stakeholders in the use of information products.Assist with training materials, and demonstrations.Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.Participate in post-project implementation reviews or ‘lessons learned’, incorporating these lessons into appropriate process documentation, standards templates and checklists.Ensure compliance of project and IS standards for design deliverables.Ensure consistency across projects and model development/execution platforms.Align and promote enterprise data assets principles and strategy.Maintain deep expertise in frameworks, emerging technologies, and best practices.Recommend new procedures and processes to drive desired results on diverse projects.Provide technical leadership in both business-as-usual and crisis conditions.Accountability 2 – Data Analysis & ReportingExecute an approach using artificial intelligence to enhance decision-making and risk management, ensuring alignment with the bank’s financial objectives.Assist with managing resource time and costs associated with developing and implementing MS Azure cloud-based soutions using deep learning / machine learning models and ensure alignment to approved budget.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESEducationBSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.Masters degree or Ph.D. in Math, Math Finance, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalently strong quantitative backgroundProfessional ExperienceMinimum of 8 years’ technical experience working as a Data Scientist.Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL and relational databases.Demonstrated knowledge of agile solution development principles.Excellent data wrangling, data preprocessing, and data visualization skills.Experience with ETL processes/tools, SAS products considered a benefit.Experience with Docker Containers and Kubernetes.Experience with MLFlow or SAS Model Manger.Working knowledge of Git, Bitbucket, or equivalent code versioning tools.Experience with VSCode, MLOps, CICD pipelines, Azure cloud platform and Azure services such as Azure AI + Machine Learning, Cognitive Services (Azure certifications is a plus).Preferred ExperienceData visualization skills in Power BI or SAS Visual Analytics.Experience with SAS including SAS Viya.Familiar with Microsoft Team Data Science Process.Previous experience in the banking or financial sector.Personal CompetenciesStrong leadership skills to mentor and guide junior team members.Demonstrated ability to navigate between big-picture and implementation details.Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic environment.Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach to tackle complex challenges.Strong organizational and analytical skills.Exceptional communication skills to deliver clear, engaging, and understandable reports.Capable of tailoring complex messages into simplified and business applicable material for key stakeholders.
