About the Opportunity

The Department of Psychiatry of Dalhousie University and NSH, Central Zone, has an excellent opportunity for a Psychiatrist to work within the Centre for Emotions and Health Clinic at Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building and the Adult Community Mental Health Team.

The clinical component of this position involves seeing patients with functional somatic disorders using the intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy model of assessment and treatment. The treatment is currently limited to 20 sessions.

There are some teaching opportunities, and a limited amount of time for research.

Qualifications

The requirements of this position include:

– You must be licensable to practice in the province of Nova Scotia

– You must have some education and skill in the use of a form of short-term psychotherapy

– You must be comfortable to work with patients who have high anxiety and somatic symptom presentations

– You must be comfortable with videotape case review and providing feedback to peers

This is a 1.0 FTE position, starting as soon as possible. The position reports to Dr. Mahmoud Awara, Head, Section of Community Psychiatry
