Job title: Physiotherapist I – Stroke Therapy

Job description: Your Opportunity:
Under management of the CDM Manager and the Allied Health Manager, and in collaboration with the North Zone Cardiovascular Lead, and support from the Westlock Cardiovascular Coordinator; this position is responsible for monitoring Stroke Unit Equivalent Care site compliance with Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations and provincial regulatory requirements and patient processes. The position provides guidance of the implementation of Stroke Unit Equivalency Care (SUEC) through a multidisciplinary team approach of delivery of stroke rehabilitation therapy, and patient education. Other duties include collecting, and entering data as required to support provincial stroke programs, coordinating, and facilitating site stroke team meetings, and assisting with staff education as required. The stroke therapist PT1 will also collaborate with other stroke team members from across the zone on revision and development of stroke related quality improvement initiatives and acts as a conduit through which patients are linked with Chronic Disease Management programs, and other support services after discharge. Please note this position will be based out of Westlock or Barrhead.

Description:
As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta. Additional Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree or Masters degree in Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy. Active practice license with the related Alberta association. NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale). 2 years clinical experience preferred with experience in stroke rehabilitation. Preferred Qualifications:
