We’re united by a shared commitment to excellent and equitable health care.Position OverviewUnder the general supervision of the Clinical Manager, Critical Care, the PICC Nurse is responsible for performing care for specific patients requiring insertion of various types of central lines or troubleshooting of existing lines; utilizing nursing knowledge and skills in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care; providing, delegating or supervising the delivery of expert nursing care for patients within the hospital campus; acting as an advisor to nursing personnel and other health care professionals for the care of patients requiring insertion or trouble shooting of various types of central lines; and performing other related duties as assigned.Experience

  • Five (5) years recent acute Medical Nursing and/or Surgical Nursing experience required.
  • Demonstrated clinical teaching and expertise required.
  • Previous experience in an expanded nursing role required.
  • Current PICC competency required.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of various current and related software applications would be an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Victim Services Worker
  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.

The successful applicant will be required to have completed the required education to be able to insert these lines and must successfully complete yearly educational theoretical review and demonstrate clinical competence in the insertion of central lines.Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).

Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred. * Current B.C.L.S. certification required.

  • Canadian Vascular Access Association (CVAA) certification preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of:
  • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
  • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.

Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). * Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

  • Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
