The position being recruited is for the First Nations Relations branch.First Nations Relations builds government-to-government relationships with First Nations, which are formalized through protocol/relationship agreements that provide a framework for continued collaboration between the provincial government and First Nations in Alberta.The branch also provides advice and specialized knowledge to provincial departments, federal and municipal governments and industry, and participates in cross-ministry strategies affecting First Nations people.First Nations Relations is also responsible for economic development initiatives across the department and administers grants like the First Nations Development Fund grant program. For more information on diversity and inclusion, please visit:Role ResponsibilitiesJoin Now to Shape Indigenous Economic Development in Alberta!The Business Development Advisor supports the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF), focusing on increasing the number of Indigenous community-owned businesses in Alberta and increasing employment opportunities for Indigenous peoples. The Business Development Advisor also supports the administration of the Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative- Economic Stream. Responsibilities associated with administering these two grant programs include maintaining relationships, providing advisory services for economic opportunities, reviewing funding applications and advising on projects. The role also includes supporting Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) governance, identifying funding opportunities for Indigenous partners, and collaborating and providing economic development advice across ministries.Key Responsibilities:

Material Handler - day shift
  • Support ABIF (Alberta Business Investment Fund) to enhance Indigenous community-owned businesses.
  • Advise on economic opportunities and administer the IRI-ES (the Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative – Economic Stream) program.
  • Assist with AIOC (Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation) governance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve Indigenous economic outcomes and identify funding opportunities.

Qualifications4 years university degree in a related field such as Public Administration, Business, Arts, Economics, Indigenous Studies plus a minimum of four years progressively responsible related experience is required; equivalencies will be considered.Experience Required:

  • Experience conducting presentations to various stakeholder groups
  • Previous project management experience.

  • Indigenous cultural understanding is considered an asset for this position.
  • Experience in community engagement; relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders including elected officials, Ministry and Government of Alberta partners, community organizations, Indigenous leaders and communities, and other levels of government.
  • Experience with business development and an understanding of the Indigenous economic landscape in Alberta.
  • Experience with facilitation and negotiation.
  • Experience in conducting research, performing analysis, and writing.
  • Experience administering grants.
